RE: Two couples needed for Golden, CO

dmartin, I did not mean to ignore part of your request: job description is for the outside, escort to site, assist getting into site, show 'em the hook-ups and make sure the breakers are off, site check in the am and then about 15-30 min after check-out time, pump propane, jump thru any hoops for the office, light maint on electrical and plumbing, sometimes practically guaranteed we all will have to take turns digging up a broken hydrant and replacing same. Most of the yard work as cutting grass will be over. We of the outside gang will be taking up the slack on the week-ends for the gal that does restroom and laundry facility cleaning during the week. We do the morning trash pick-up at the sites and run the vacuum in the office and the store and do the trash. The girls inside will be working with Campground Master doing check-ins and reservations. There is a small store adjacent to the office that will require some cash register action. The girls in the office also generate errands for the guys outside!
One project I failed to mention is manufacturing a bunch of sewer strainers for Dakota and two other parks. This will be from all new materials so don't "ick-out" on me! That should get the most of it. I know I forgot something. I'll post it if it is a biggie.

RE: Two couples needed for Golden, CO

run2, I did check RV Park Reviews and what the people said made some very good points. Suzie's biker bar IS across the street and Friday and Saturday nights are the worst when the morons get tanked and rev alot. 7-Eleven is across the street, too as is a coupla hair salons. Dakota Ridge IS a TRANSIENT PARK at the western end of the Denver area. It is NOT a destination park like our other two in Estes park. Highway noise is a very real thing. City noise is, too. Light pollution is a big negative if you are an amateur astronomer as well.
No refunds is accurate. Only camp credits. Most parks do this.
30 and 50 amps have meters but there is no "hook" for the workers-workers DO NOT pay any electricity.

RE: Two couples needed for Golden, CO

Propane is in the park and all the outside guys are/will be certified to pump the stuff. There is a two-wheeler (hand truck to y'all from the north!) especially modified to haul the 24 gallon/100 lb propane tanks around. You will not have to move either the motorhome to fill but you will need an extend-a-stay tee valve and hose to accomodate the external 100 lb cylinder which is provided by the park. 5ers don't need the valve but will need a hose from the changeover valve to the external tank. Most of the hydrants are heated and the troops will be in sites with heated hydrants. We all will be engaged in making heated hoses for ourselves and customers. The heated hose is one of the bennies, too.
The last two winters have been the worst on record according to the people that had to shovel. Maybe this year will be better. Who knows? Certainly not the Weather Guesser on TV!

RE: Two couples needed for Golden, CO

Oh, yeah. Sorry. Dakota Ridge is not a destination park. So the park does not generate activities for the guests. The whole of the front range is available and reachable year round thanks to the Colorado DOT for when it snows they are on top of it. There is a "club house" with cable TV but you can see that on the website.

RE: Two couples needed for Golden, CO

Yeah,trop-a-cal, Coors with tours and free samples IS around the corner! The goofy thing about Golden is it can be 28-30 F outside and if it is sunny and the wind ain't blowin' you can wander and work in shirt sleeves. Freezing in the rigs can be a real problem mainly because most TT and 5ers have some really cold unprotected spots and this includes the "arctic" options. The worst case in a MH was a Safari right behind the water panel: no basement heat and not enough room for a space heater. We did this for two winters there and are not battin' and eye about doing it again. Two parks stay open: Golden and Loveland. Two are closed for the season: Elk Meadow and Spruce Lake both in Estes Park. THEY are really frozen!

Two couples needed for Golden, CO

Need two couples for the winter at Dakota Ridge RV Park in Golden, CO. Dates are the end of October to the end of March 09. Summer of 09 may have openings at our other three parks in CO (Estes Park and Loveland). All hours are paid and you get a real FHU site WITH PROPANE included as part of your compensation. PM me for pay arrangements. Please e-mail resume' to karlshumaker@yahoo.com (please put resume' in body of e-mail to get around word program differences).
I suspect some of you may be questioning our sanity of spending a winter on the Front Range of the Rockies in CO! Well, we spent two winters there already and it was surprisingly good to occasionally cold. The last two winters have been remarkable in how much snow they had. Don't know what this winter will be like but I'm willing to listen to the locals say this winter should not be as tough that they have had their dose of bad weather. Probably more accurate of a forecast than from the AMS weather-guessers!

RE: direct TV HD receiver

moisheh, I tried doing that on line but I must be too dumb to find my way on their website since I kept going in circles. Far as I know, guys, my bill should be the same as the previous programming. I will let you know of any surprises.

direct TV HD receiver

Could not find on search and did not want to hijack a topic so started this one.
Got a new receiver and more hardware than I thought I would ever want from Direct. The new receiver is HD capable but will work with the old single LNB's. The new receiver is hooked to the old Winegard LNB that came with "Bertha" the Bounder and it works great! The overall picture quality is vastly improved and the schedule format is way better than the old Hughes we have had for years. The new box works great with the Samsung LCD that I put in place of the original Panasonic 20" tube.
I mention all this because I dragged my feet for a coupla weeks knowing I would get in a great hassle with the girls and boys at Direct trying to activate the new receiver. I was right: it took hours getting to a real person to turn on the box. It WAS worth it, just not really reasonable.

RE: Watchcamping

We talked with some guy in 2004 about watching a mine and its equipment for the purpose of security. Sounded like a good deal with great pay. Wish I could find his number.....

RE: For Employers - Workamper Package

My suggestion is to contact former workampers you have had and ask them what improvements you could make. What would YOU have to do differently to get THEM to come back. The reason you did not get your work agreement back is because those folks did not like what you laid out. You gotta remember fuel is four bucks a gallon to get to your place and wherever after. Even before it was $4/gal it still cost the workamper couple a significant investment just to get to your place. For some of us this workamper thing is an alternative lifestyle to living in a stick-built and working for someone else. Lots of us have to make something regular to bridge to full retirement. You are one of the campgrounds that do not offer enough for some of us workampers. Millie and I go for park management because that is where the money is. In a year and a half we will back off to workamper only and leave the headaches to someone else.
there are several places we will NEVER return to because of the raw surprises we received. We are BACK to a place we have been because of the GREAT compensation.
It is up to you.

RE: Cable voltage

I should have been more specific: Cable in the park cable. Voltage or signal strength on that cable. The reason I ask is my prised Samsung 23" LCD flat screen operated from Nov 08 to Apr 09 with NO problems until I hooked up to park cable. THEN the picture quality went to hank in a hand basket. It is at CVE in NJ for repairs and should return next week. I just wondered what y'all thought of some way to measure for pass/no pass. Spectrum analyzer is one. How 'bout a general purpose O-scope? What else? Thanks in advance.

Where is W8YXM on this? N0EVH got me started in 2004 an I have thrown up a coupla dipoles and long wires and no one gripped. Use 16 to 18 black insulated wire. QRP goes a long ways to cut RFI.

RE: Is it me or the forum?

OK, here comes everyone's straight man: I have recommended RV.net to everyone whom is interested in, well, anything concerning RV's or RVing. The site gets broke every now and then but it usually comes back very shortly. It is working every time I get on with very few exceptions. It is THE site in my opinion. More info traded here than any other place and the least hassle. I don't care if it is owned by that room full of suits somewhere that owns Camping World and other stuff!
Karl
PS: if CW orked as well as this site it would be a quantum improvement.

RE: Generator Stalls

Volts look good. Mine needed a fuel filter at a tad over a thousand hours. Durn thing was right on the front of a 5.5 Onan. Replaced it and it worked fine. Also look at or replace your air filter which when clogged acts as a choke and sends the mixture way rich which can reduce available power. Yours ay have an altitude adjustment-try to set it for no black smoke. Let us know what you find and if any of these stabs in the dark work...

RE: Need your air compressor suggestion

I have a Sears Craftsman "Inflator" that does tires to 125 PSI and blows out water lines at any pressure you want. It has no tank and is relatively quiet. It is small to take little space in the basement of Bertha the Bounder. The small rigs at HD and Harbor Freight seem efficient in turning 110 VAC into noise and not much else unless you are really patient.
